Painting Description
St Moritz ski painting of skiers on the piste heading down to Celerina near St Moritz in the Swiss Alps. This is a beautiful and loose ski painting by the popular cult ski artist Pete Caswell. This is one of Pete’s very loose styled paintings with a wonderful free and flowing underpainting of blues and turquoises where the colours are allowed to flow and merge most naturally. Later when the painting has settled Pete adds the minimum of detail to maintain the freedom of the slopes and mountains within the painting. Its a truly beautiful piece and has a wonderful glow in the mountains above the piste and a flowing and uplifting sky. In the distance above the piste is the chair and Piz Nair cable car. Pete loves St Moritz for the wonderful lake and the incredible history which features in some of his painting series. A favourite is the Kulm hotel where he has been overwhelmed by the history and character of this most iconic of hotels and of course a visit to the Hauser and Wirth Gallery just opposite for an artistic immersion.
