The Art Gallery Lodges

Not complete yet, but nearly Lodge no 1
Not complete yet, but nearly Lodge no 1 ready in April

A new development at Pete Caswell’s Art Gallery in Braunton are three new luxury Art Gallery Lodges located in the fields surrounding the art studio. Brand new for the 2015 season. Completion May 2015.  Photos of unit one completed interior due end March.

These Lodges have been beautifully designed and custom built specifically to house some of Pete Caswell’s colection of art work. Enjoy staying in the beautiful location in these luxury lodges whilst enjoying Pete’s art.

Full of life and colour. Sea breezes and sea light fill the air. Each lodge is modern and contemporary, adorned with some of Pete Caswell’s famous art work, paintings and sculpture. With cedar cladding, zinc roofs and floor to ceiling aluminium windows these custom made lodges look modern and striking. Inside there are timber floors, marble bathrooms, underfloor heating and original art by Pete Caswell.

Pete Caswell’s art studio is set in 7 acres of grass land which becomes wild flower meadows and horse paddocks in the summer . If you are lucky you will catch a glimpse through the trees of the adjoining nature reserve and SSSI ancient woodland beyond. Past the nature reserves and fields is the UNESCO Braunton Biosphere about half a mile away, a picturesque area of the Braunton Marshes and largest sand dune complex in Europe. When the surf is up the air is filled with the sound of the waves as the rumble rolls over the dunes towards the fields.

Each unit is set in a spacious plot with views over the fields. Facing directly South with large french doors and windows you can make the most of the lovely sea light. Highly insulated with wood floors and underfloor heating they make for a cosy stay out of main season. The bedrooms feature a king size bed with a view through floor to ceiling windows across the fields. There is a lounge next to the bedroom with a small kitchen area with electric twin hob, small sink and fridge. The contemporary bathrooms are lovely and spacious with ceramic timber on the floor and marble on the walls with underfloor heating and walk in shower.

Outside is a spacious hardwood deck area with partial shade sail cover. Parking is outside each unit for one normal size car. For oversize vehicles there is a parking area 30m away.

One of the units has been designed as particularly helpful for the older or more infirm guest with ramp access and support rails in the bathroom. This unit is also suitable for wheel chair / disabled access, but please see the notes on this to check it is fully suitable before you book. All the units have level floor access inside but only one has ramp access to the decks. The other two units have 2 shallow steps to the deck area which accesses the building. The area is very well suited to cycles with some great routes from the accommodation, along the coastal cycle path and to the beaches of the area. Braunton is easy to access, only a 3/4 mile level walk and has a great selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants. adjoining the land is a regular bus stop which will take you to Saunton beach, Croyde beach, Barnstaple, Bideford and with connections at Braunton to Ilfracombe, or from Barnstaple to many other areas.

The Gallery Lodges are inbetween Saunton and Braunton, near to both the village of Braunton and the beaches of Saunton and Croyde. The site is just off the Saunton Road on the outskirts of Braunton on the way to Saunton andCroyde.

Note while we are near the the coast and dunes access to the sea is by car/ bike or bus. Saunton Beach is1.5 miles. The best beach to walk to is a lovely walk down the lanes and accross the dunes to a deserted stretch of Saunton Sands Beach 1.5 miles along the lanes, about 30 min walk and then about 30 mins throught the Unesco Dunes to the Beach. You can make a loop out of this walk .

Take a look at the video from last summmer of Pete’s art studio and the surroundings to get a feel for whats in store.

The site is near to the ocean and has a wonderful ocean light and in summer the fields are brimming with wild flowers. The nearest beaches are close by at Saunton (1.5 miles) and Croyde. You can also access the beach over the sand dunes by parking in the Sandy Lane car park (1miles) which is nearby or the car park at Saunton Sands Beach 1.5 miles along the road. There is a very efficient bus service 200m from the site which will take you to all the nearby beaches & places of interest. While the beach is about 1.5 miles away, it is not advisable to walk there from the site. The site is near to the art studio of popular local artist and author Pete Caswell. View Pete Caswell’s paintings for sale

Video Tour of the Art Studio in Summer

If you’ve got a touch of the winter blues check out this short video of a summer visit to the art studio and grounds including the stunning nearby coast. Beautiful sunsets and memories or summer. It cheered me up no end, try it out. Nice music too!

Stunning video includes some great shots of saunton and Croyde beaches, sunsets and glistening light. It shows a few areas of the studio where I love to paint, the fields, meadows and horses on the land around the studio. Full of the inspiration of a sunny day.

Visit the Art Studio of Pete Caswell Video

As it is the New Year I made a video about visiting the art studio and taking a look around at all the paintings for sale. It starts at the gate then you walk up the drive to the studio, through the door and take a look around. Its about 14mins long and gives you a real good look at a couple of rooms in the studio and some of the paintings.
