Courmayeur and Mt Blanc ski and snowboard oil painting for sale. Epic colours and textures make this wonderful semi abstract oil painting float off the wall. On deep canvas 80cm x 80cm this is an amazing painting and I love it. I can only say the jpeg does not do it justice. The glacier sweeps down from Mt Blanc in the centre and Mt Blanc climbs up to the right through the trees. Pistes part of the Courmayeur ski area deep in powder lie off to the left. Probably be in the £800 mark when it is put up for sale later in the year.

Verbier and Siviez Paintings For Sale for Skiers and Snowboarders in this beautiful Ski area in the Swiss Alps.
This is the first of this years ski season of the new ski and snowboard paintings for sale. This season the focus for the paintings is on Verbier and Siviez where I had a fresh powder dream last year in the unbelievable conditions and the incredible lift accessed off piste. These two paintings are bigger around a metre in length and on board using thick oil paints. The colours are deep and mature with purples, magenta, deep reds and hot blues. There are some interesting textures and colour combinations. These skiing and snowboarding oil paintings will be put on the site for sale towards Christmas of you can pre purchase them. They are just about complete and will need about two to three months to dry before they can be shipped.

This ski, snowboard painting is just above Siviez. Looking down into the Siviez valley with chair lift Siviez 61 dropping down into the trees. This is an epic bit of piste in the powder full of jumps and small cliff drops. From Plan Du Fou at the top when you have tried the epic off piste to Tracouet try this lovely run. As you reach the bottom of the drag Plan Du Fou 62 head straight on off piste and so much fun awaits jumps and rocks and trees, magic.
The painting is set on a fresh powder day with the cloud just starting to lift. Just below on the left you can see the bottom of the run on the other side of the valley accessed from Novelli chair lift. To the right you can see the mountains starting to peak out from under the clouds. The trees are to the right and the drop offs are straight under the lift where you head down. Beautiful deep greens and colour combinations make up the trees on the other side of the valley. To get a bit more orientaion, if you were to look just to the right of the painting through the trees and the clouds you would see Mt Fort peaking out. This is a beautiful ski painting of the mountains just above Verbier as you drop down into the town. Tree lined runs and a wide open powder filled piste with new tracks and mounds of snow. Lovely colours and textures in the beautiful oil painting of Verbier. Great focus point and mountains in the distance make this a great painting to have on the wall. Full of colour and texture make this a real interesting painting to look at and bring some real life to your wall. Its about a metre across and will go on sale in a couple of months for £750. Its virtually finished except for putting a few skiers and snowboarders hidden in the woods. The painting is from near the lovely restaurant at the top of Maventzet lift in between Medran ski run and Etierces skiing run, looking down towards Verbier and beyond into the valley.

But for all my reasons you can’t get away from the fact that the paintings are just straightforward sexy. I moved to Croyde a few years ago having lived on and off in north Devon for many years in between travels and living in India and the Alps. I had the studio based at Braunton where I sold my paintings for many years when I wasn’t in India.
Croyde really grew on me. Its like a hidden gem in this busy and over done world, hidden in its own little bay with a lovely grassy park centre to the village and dunes backing the

beach. The beach has a lovely curve with Down End at one side and Baggy point at the other. If you know where to go these headlands have some fantastic swimming holes where you can swim and dive when the surf is flat. And if you can get down deep enough you can fill your pockets with huge crabs and lobsters.

In the middle of the beach are some amazing sand banks which throw up the surf to a wonderful shape which helps on small waves days to give a fun punchy wave which is great to ride. The expansive scene has been the source of many paintings around the bay. I have painted the bay from many angles and even painted the Thatch pub in Croyde village. But my favourite paintings here have been a close up focus of the waves as they have such a lovely powerful shape which merits capturing in oil on canvas. wave wrong on a big day and it can really do some damage, and that’s if the crashing surf doesn’t beat you back to the shore before you have even reached the clean break out back. This wave really frightens me as the lip of the wave curls over past the base and you look over the abyss with 10 to 15 foot drop straight down with a whole wall of water to follow and smash you down into a super size tumble dryer of bubbles and froth.

I painted a really moving series of paintings based on this wave shape of Croyde. From the original series I have three large paintings left all about 80cm x 80cm(or 100cm) in various shades of blues and turquoises with a splash of other colours to lift the light in the painting. Other paintings have been based on the surfers and surfing people playing and surfing in the waves and surf. Other sets of paintings have focussed on the lovely shape of the bay and the shape of the headland working with the sky and clouds as they sweep into the land from the sea. It’s a scene of light sea, sand, big skies and excitement.
My current commission is a large oil painting 1.2m wide of the view from Down End across the bay to Baggy point with the surf, beach and dunes forming centre stage.
When I moved to Croyde I started to get a taste for Woolacombe and Puttsborough beaches. I just loved cycling over the hill from Croyde to Puttsborough and taking a coffee at the café above the beach at Putsborough. Perfectly placed to watch the surfers and beach happenings, to photograph and compose paintings. Such a spot and with the headland stretching into the distance makes the perfect back drop. Beautiful waves and turquoise seas with welcome shelter from the South West sea breeze to clean up those rolling waves of surf magic.

When this beach really comes alive for a painting is as you walk or cycle along the coastal path behind the dunes, looking over the grasses and you see the amazing curve this beach has as it stretches so far up towards Woolacombe. lower in the sky, the colours seem to be sharper and more intense at this time of year. I paint sunsets all around the world, but it is the sunsets from the North Devon beaches that I paint again and again because no other sunsets have such a range of colours as here. On the beach at Woolacombe as the tide goes out or dare I say it even better after the rain, the beach turns into an enormous crystal clear mirror, reflecting the sky and the beach men and women, giving double the colour. This makes my sunset paintings so full of life and colour because you aren’t just restricted to painting the sunset in the sky, you get to paint it twice, in the beach as well. And not just the beach, the waves twinkle in the low sunlight and the flat sea beyond the breaking surf reflects the warm setting sun, mixing the yellows and pinks from the sun and the blue from the sky beyond to give the most amazing combinations of turquoise effects reflecting on the surface of the ocean.

Following in the Footsteps of the Beatles Painting the Energy of India
Pete Caswell is a famous artist who travels the world capturing the spiritual light, love and happiness of the places we love. The wonderful subcontinent of India has been a great source spiritual joy for Pete as he traveled around this enchanting country for over 20 years. It was here that Pete learned to paint in rural India, where his first exhibitions were held and where he sold his first paintings with chocolate cake and sweet Indian tea.

Sure Pete tells me, there is the usual mix of charlatans, pretenders and con men, but amongst the dust and chaos are some real and truly phenomenal places and people imbued with a hypnotic and captivating spiritual aura.

As well as the famous sites and temples reaching far back into ancient history, there are modern and new sites of spiritual significance developing within more recent times and they are quite amazing. Some of these place are new and fresh unlike some of the old which are strewn with karmic burdens of the crowds and all the usual trappings of a money making site. My favourite was a place called Meherabad in centre of rural India
India is a unique place. It has depths of poverty and suffering, and it has hideous extremes of wealth which are only too apparent. But this is the surface, the physical and at times overwhelming, but underneath this, and the unique mental attitude is what strikes you. You have to turn your head upside down here in order to function and drop some of your Western arrogance of mind and logical thinking.

Pete started a painting project to capture the energy of these special sites. These sites convey an extreme sense of peace, oneness and inner quality of life. It is spiritual India where Pete studied painting and it is here where he grounded his inspiration and honed his skills. Pete seeks the depths of Love and spiritual sanctuary in his paintings. Just like the Beatles after their famous trip to Rishikesh Pete fills his work with the energy of this special country.
Pete’s latest painting project from India is called India Energy Paintings and they are a continuation of his previous works towards capturing the depths of life, it’s inner sanctuary and meaning which has been sought by so many throughout history. Its the focus of energy which we all strive for, to achieve happiness or more lasting inner happiness and contentment, or bliss and enlightenment.
Taking a beak from painting in Goa
When Pete lived in India he painted many of the Energy Paintings on the sites of significant spiritual energy. The most important of these for me was a place called Meherabad in rural central India, a beautiful estate set on the plains near Poona.
Pete says, “When I visit these sites I am in a wonderful space and my energy body dances to the tune of this uplifting and stimulating energy. When I paint the paintings at the site it is a truly wonderful experience, it is as if my mind is absorbed into the site, my spiritual energy is uplifted and the painting becomes quite automatic, fully inspired by the place and its reaction on the body. There is very little mind present in the painting and I am always quite ecstatic by the result.”
Pete was always surprised after he had painted the energy paintings many people would be drawn to visit his room to see the paintings. Even walking back to his room after painting he would have a hard job to hang onto the wet oil paintings. Many people seeing only a glimpse of the colourful work on the dirt path back to his quarters would instantly wish to buy the paintings, there and then.
Poetry and paintings book based on Pete’s India paintings trips
Pete explained, “The paintings shone so brightly to me in the powerful Indian light I really wasn’t ready to sell them. This was a real problem. My trips to India were about selling my work at various exhibitions and here were sales knocking on the door. How could I turn them down. In the end Pete gave into the pressure and and sold some of the paintings to some of the most persistent visitors.
Many of the paintings went to spiritually aware people who had inner sight or hearing and they bought them for use as a focus for mediation to see beyond the physical. Many of these people had inner hearing, they were quite tuned into the site at Meherabad and the spiritual master who had resided there until 1969. His tomb formed the centre of the large estate.
Living at these spiritual sites led to some unusual coincidences and meetings. People would turn up at the door asking about a painting they needed from Pete without knowing him or the paintings in the physical world. They would say their inner spiritual guide had led them to the door. “

When people turned up at the door guided only by their inner guide to ask for a painting, it was quite hard to say no, as you couldn’t really argue with this one, it was obviously meant to be and the request was obviously coming from higher up as they had no prior physical knowledge of me or the paintings.”
After completing the energy series Pete returned to the UK. After such a long stay in India he found it a real culture shock.

When you arrive in India you get a culture shock. Then after a long stay in India you get settled in and India becomes the norm, the new reference point. When you return to the UK you get culture shock all over again. The two places are just so different, not just on the physical, but the way the mind works and the way you think is turned completely upside down.”
Pete returned to the UK with his energy paintings which were a record of his experience of the spiritual places he visited, in particular the time he lived at his favourite place, Meherabad in central India. For the next two years the Energy Paintings formed a base for a new series of paintings where he integrated the techniques and feelings he learned in India into his new series of paintings. These new paintings were based on the holiday resorts, sports and places we all love on a physical and emotional level. This would complete the circle bringing all of the feelings of joy and happiness in the physical and the spiritual into his art.

I try to produce a link from beyond the physical to make images which replicate these feelings in the paintings, once I have returned home. This week sees the online opening of the new exhibition of Pete Caswell’s new season’s Ski and Snowboard Paintings celebrating the winter of snow, fun and sunny skies in the European Alps.
Last year Pete toured the Alps on the first part of his trip to photograph, ski and snowboard the most exhilarating and highest ski and snowboard resorts in the Alps. This series of paintings is a collection of all the top runs in the Alps above 3000m where snowy glaciers remain all year.
These places are very special, on top of the world, incredibly remote, and yet you can get there on a fast and powerful ski lift in minutes with very little effort. You are put where human habitation is not possible, but with the help of a lift pass and a board strapped to your feet you can have an incredible amount of fun.
